Hack in Alice Springs: Bridging the internet divide

21 September 2011Remember a time before the internet? Some of you might... But in Papunya, a remote Aboriginal community in the central Australian desert, people are just getting connected.

The small town has a chequered past, it was the birthplace for the iconic Western Desert Art Movement in the 1970's, but more recently had a chronic petrol sniffing problem.

A computer room with internet access has sprung up to teach kids whose education had lapsed during the sniffing epidemic.

But as Alex Mann reports it's music, not Facebook, that's drawing them in.
