Non-proliferation, disarmament and Australian security

10 November 2011In recent years Australia has taken a leading role in national, regional and international non-proliferation and disarmament, in particular through the Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference in May 2010 and the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (ICNND).

This seminar addresses three key themes in the relationship between national security and non-proliferation: the state of international non-proliferation regimes, Australia’s non-proliferation commitments, and consequent regional security issues.

In May 2011 the Federal Government announced that the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) would commence operations from 1 July 2012 and that it would initially be responsible for determining the legal status of groups seeking charitable, public benevolent institution, and other not-for-profit (NFP) benefits on behalf of all Commonwealth agencies.
