SOAC 7 (9-11 December 2015) was held on the Gold Coast, Australia's largest non-capital city. The focus of SOAC 7 was on ways to develop more productive relationships between academic researchers, policy makers and other urban planners and practitioners.
Held in Sydney from 26-29 November 2013, SOAC 6 was the largest State of Australian Cities conference to date. Over 180 papers have been published in collected proceedings and all papers presented at SOAC 2013 were subject to a double blind refereeing process and reviewed by at least two referees. In particular, the review process assessed each paper in terms of its policy relevance and the contribution to the conceptual or empirical understanding of Australian cities.
The State of Australian Cities (SOAC) national conferences have been held biennially since 2003 to support interdisciplinary policy-related urban research.
SOAC 5 took place from 29 November - 2 December 2011 and was hosted by the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology and Latrobe University as well as the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute and the Grattan Institute, the Victorian State Government and the City of Melbourne.
