IT HAS seemed like a good idea for a long time. Hop on a train in the middle of Sydney and get out in the centre of Melbourne or Brisbane in three hours. Or travel from Sydney to Canberra in less than an hour. High-speed rail, which we used to call the Very Fast Train, is back on the agenda. Soon, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese will announce the terms of reference for an 18-month, $20 million feasibility study into a line between Brisbane and Melbourne.
