19 July 2012 | In order to address problems often associated with disadvantaged public housing estates, this article reviews eleven primary studies that examine the impact of social mix on public housing estates.
29 May 2007 | The Australian government, due to its virtual freeze on the expansion of social housing, has created a situation where more and more older Australians are dependent on the private rental market for their accommodation. Alan Morris reports on a study based on twenty in-depth interviews with older private renters in Sydney.
21 November 2006 | The Australian government recently reformed policy on disability and work to make people who are assessed as capable of working at least fifteen hours a week ineligible for the Disability Support Pension. This article reports on a study based on six focus groups with recipients, illustrating that the new policy could have dire implications for the people subject to it.
01 June 2006 | Kristy Muir, Ann Dadich, David Abelló, Michael Bleasdale, Alan Morris and Karen Fisher present the summary findings of the second phase of a longitudinal evaluation of the Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative Stage One from May to October 2005. They find that outcomes continued to improve for the majority of clients. Summaries of report I (PDF) and report II (PDF) are also available.
19 May 2006 | This is the first report of a study of the motivations of rental investors in Australia. The study aims to gain a better understanding of investors’ experiences, motives and actions, as well as the perceptions of investors’ behaviours among other key players in the rental sector.
20 October 2005 | Alan Morris and David Abelló report on the findings of a series of focus groups which aimed to explore what made people apply for the DSP, their capacities and aspirations for community participation, work and education and training, their perceptions of the information received and the kinds of information, assistance and service support they would find helpful in meeting their aspirations.
