Signature masterclass: Navigating the techniques and risks of doing joined-up government

15 June 2011Date: Thursday 17th November 2011                                                                                                                          Duration: full-dayPresenters: Professor Ed DeSeve

This inaugural Crawford Signature MasterClass will focus on the techniquesand risks of joined-up government drawing from both the US and Australian experiences.

You will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from Prof Ed DeSeve, the former Obama adminstration Czar, who successfully managed the near-flawless organisation and delivery of nearly US$800 billion worth of Stimulus programs over a very short time frame across the Federal and State divide. The was achieved through the brilliant use of digital technologies and the pioneering of innovative new measures in networking, public accountability and transparency with dynamic real-time reporting and an unprecedented level of cooperation across hundreds of separate US federal, state and local government instrumentalities. Ed will draw on the lessons learnt from this epic program and contrast these with US international measures in joined up government dealing with global public health crisis situations.

In the afternoon, Crawford ANU & ANZSOG academic Dr Janine O’Flynn will briefly outline the results of her ground-breaking ARC research that examined the issues affecting joined-up government in Australian non-crisis situations.Janine argues that many of the lessons of joined-up government from crisis scenarios are not readily transplantable into non-crisis situations and that newincentives and structures need to be developed for the latter.

Join our experts Ed DeSeve and Janine O’Flynn in the afternoon closed workshop special forum to air your own issues or opinions of joined up government and to discuss some practical solutions or remedies. Don’t miss this golden opportunity to participate in a leading edge discussion with one of the most accomplished exponents of networked or joined-up government fromthe United States and one of Australia’s leading researchers in this field.
