The 2017 Wellington Finance Summit

Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Economics and Finance is pleased to invite submissions in all fields of finance to be considered for presentations at the 2017 Wellington Finance Summit to be held on October 27th in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand.

The conference is an upgraded version of the Finance Workshop held in previous years. It is going to be a one-day small conference featuring one keynote speech and eight high-quality paper presentations/discussions. The goal is to bring a small group of experts worldwide to summer Wellington to exchange ideas in depth and in a relaxed mood.  

The conference will start with a welcome reception drinks on the evening of October 26th. All presentations will take place on October 27th with welcome breakfast, lunch, and morning and afternoon tea provided. Then the conference concludes with a dinner for presenters and discussants in the evening. 

Keynote Speaker

Rossen Valkanov, who is the Zable Endowed Chair in Management and Professor of Finance at the Rady School of Management, UC San Diego. He is also the editor of the Journal of Empirical Finance.

Harbour Asset Management Best Paper Award

A Best Paper Award of NZ$2000 is sponsored by Harbour Asset Management, the top fund manager in New Zealand in Morningstar's annual awards 2016 and 2017.


Please send a complete paper with the subject “Paper Submission_First name_Last name” by Thursday 31 August 2017 to the conference email address There is no submission fee. Paper acceptances will be notified by early September.


Although there is no registration fee for presenters and discussants, registration is required for catering purposes. Please email Ingrid Watts ( by Tuesday 10 October 2017 with the subject “Registration-Wellington Finance Summit” and include your name, affiliation and contact details in the email. Please advise if you have any specific dietary requirements (e.g. Gluten, Vegetarian, etc). Participants are expected to cover their own accommodation and travel costs.
