Trends in rents The Melbourne Rent Index (MRI) increased by 1.0 per cent in the March quarter. In the twelve months to March 2015, the MRI increased by 2.1 per cent. This annual rate of increase is above that of the March quarter 2014 (1.8%) but well below the long term average annual increase (over the past ten years) (5.2%). The Regional Rent Index (RRI) increased by 2.4 per cent in the March quarter. In the twelve months to March 2015, the RRI increased by 2.2 per cent. This annual rate of increase is above that of the March quarter 2014 (1.7%) but well below the long-term average annual increase (4.3%).
