Juvenile justice in W.A

12 Mar 2018
Description

With last month’s release of the Telethon Kids Institute report on brain impairment in detainees at Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Centre, and the NT government’s announcement that it will raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 12 years of age, Monday Mag this week took a look at alternatives to locking kids up.

Joining Rewi Lyall to discuss these complex issues were Hayley Passmore, researcher with the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, Louise Giolitto, CEO for the WA Council of Social Services, Peter Collins, Director Legal Services for the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA, and Glenda Kickett, co-Chair of Social Reinvestment WA and Co-ordinator, Therapeutic Services – Aboriginal Children and Families with the Australian Childhood Foundation.
