23 Feb 2009
Description

This report provides stakeholders, leaders and members of the public with a comprehensive account of federal investments in university research and the value of this research to Canadians. This publication is the second edition of AUCC's report on the collective efforts of universities with respect to research and knowledge mobilization. It provides stakeholders, leaders and members of the public with a comprehensive account of federal investments in university research and the value of this research to Canadians.

Momentum provides an overview of the state of R&D in Canada, documenting the investments and performance of key sectors, including Canada's universities.

It also examines: how several drivers of change will impact university research in Canada and internationally in the years to come; collaborations between Canadian universities and private sector, government, community and international partners; and the benefits of these partnerships and of university research more generally.

Taken together, the chapters of Momentum provide a detailed assessment, one that is mindful of the appropriate timeframes required to achieve long-term research goals. It also illustrates that research funding and performance must be carefully, thoroughly and continually assessed and reassessed against international competition.
