Study at Australia’s top young university

Our practice-focused courses are run by the UTS Centre for Local Government, the only university unit in Australia, and one of a few worldwide, that designs and presents courses that are tailor-made to the needs of local government.

Core subjects focus on local government principles and practices, the organisation, management and governance of local government, leadership, and research in the local government context, including comparative local governance. A range of elective subjects cover a variety of contemporary sector issues, topics and the skills needed to address them.

Choose a qualification that fits your aspirations, and your life

With a range of flexible exit and entry points across our Masters, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate programs, you can choose the study path that best suits you.

Pathways to postgraduate study

Don't have an undergraduate degree? Courses are also open to applicants with equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience in the sector. You can also enrol in an individual subject through the Centre’s professional development short course program, and eligible courses can count towards future postgraduate study.

Scholarship opportunity

The $5,000 UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance Postgraduate Scholarship has been designed to support local government practitioners seeking to broaden their knowledge and skills through postgraduate study. The Scholarship is open to Master of Local Government applicants, and provides students with the opportunity to receive a cash grant to support their studies.
