Financial abuse of the elderly on the rise

You may be surprised to know that elderly Australians are more at risk of abuse in their own homes than they are in institutional facilities, abuse that is often inflicted by a relative or a friend.

Anecdotal evidence suggest that elder abuse is on the rise, particularly financial abuse. The Queensland Law Society and the Office of the Queensland Public Advocate have just taken a close look at how the issue is being handled in that state in a new report assessing how elderly people fare under the law.
