This consultation paper sets out the nature of each of the tasks assigned to the Commission for the Government's Clean Energy Future Package.
The Australian Parliament recently passed the Government’s Clean Energy and related legislation (referred to as the Clean Energy Future Package). The Clean Energy Future Package creates a carbon pricing mechanism (to commence 1 July 2012), and provides for assistance to emissions-intensive trade-exposed activities, the coal mining sector and additional assistance for the steel industry. Under the package the Productivity Commission has been assigned a range of tasks, with the central focus being reviews of the assistance.
This document sets out the nature of each of the tasks assigned to the Commission. It is a first step in consulting with stakeholders. It is anticipated that further consultation papers will be released in 2012, with particular focus on the Commission’s approach to undertaking the work.
This consultation paper was released 22 December 2011.
