Position statement: copyright and consumers

12 Oct 2012
Description

In response to emerging concerns around issues such as illegal downloading, the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) believes consumers’ interests must be represented in relation to copyright policy. As the peak consumer body representing communications consumers, we think it is important that we clarify our position on these issues and explain how we arrived at it.
After being invited to participate in government-sponsored talks on schemes to tackle illegal downloading, ACCAN conducted a members’ consultation to arrive at some key principles to guide our work in this area.
A set of case studies illustrating some dilemmas consumers face in the present market is available in the Related Content below.
