Temporary skilled migration – a new form of indentured servitude

26 Sep 2006
Description

There has been a massive growth in the number of guest worker visas over the last two years, at the expense of workers and training, according to a study commissioned by the AMWU. The number of '457' visas granted in Australia has increased by 42% since 2004/05 and 66% since 2003/04. This equates to more than one 457 visa issued for every two permanent skilled migrants settling in Australia.
