Description

This program addresses the needs of non-government student hostels in rural and remote areas of Queensland. These establishments provide accomodation for geographically isolated primary and secondary aged students including students with disabilities. The Director-General of Education, Training and the Arts is authorised to approve access to funding in accordance with the General Funding Conditions and is also authorised to withdraw funding approval for hostels that no longer meet the general funding conditions. The Student Hostel Support Scheme Recurrent Grant assists approved student hostels with operating costs. It is strongly recommended that 40% of the Student Hostel Support Scheme Recurrent Grant be spent on pastoral care costs. The Student Hostel Support Scheme Capital Grant is designed to assist hostels with capital costs such as renovations, maintenance or the establishment of new hostels. Funding applications and payments are assessed and arranged by the School Financial Services Unit, while the Manager of the School Financial Services unit approves payments and capital grant applications under the School Hostel Support Scheme.
