Turning the map upside down

26 Aug 2005
Description

In Griffith REVIEW 9, 'Up North: Myths, Threats & Enchantment', Regina Ganter challenges the accepted views of Australian settlement by turning the map upside down. She argues that if we 'start Australian history where its documentation properly begins - in the north - the kaleidoscope of Australian history falls into a completely different pattern'. The consequences of this in terms of how Australians see themselves and their place in the world are challenging and provocative.
