Private land ownership: future agenda for Indigenous affairs?

3 Aug 2005
Description

In this paper Larissa Behrendt argues that the ideologies of 'mainstreaming' and 'assimilation' have failed in the past to shift the poorer health, lower levels of education, higher levels of unemployment and poorer standard of housing that Aboriginal communities have experienced. In addressing key parts of the government's new arrangements - the National Indigenous Committee, shared responsibility agreements, and Indigenous land issues - Professor Behrendt argues that there needs to be a strong alternative vision from the ALP.
