In Australia, heatwaves are the deadliest natural hazard and a major driver of peak electricity demand. The disproportionately high peak demand increases electricity prices, causes occasional blackouts and exacerbates energy poverty, all of which limit one’s ability to use air conditioning. Meanwhile, increased energy efficiency...

This study addresses the heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) unit, heat is stored via a phase change material (PCM) which can then be supplied at a later time to the heat transfer fluid (HTF) for applications such as concentrated solar power (CSP).

In the present paper, an experimental study is carried out to evaluate the effect of the dynamic melting concept in a cylindrical shell-and-tube heat exchanger using water as the phase change material (PCM) and a potassium formate/water solution as the heat transfer fluid (HTF).

Heatwaves are Australia’s most deadly natural hazard and the principle driver of peak electricity demand in South Australia. The disproportionately high peak demand increases electricity prices, causes occasional blackouts and exacerbates energy poverty, all of which limit the use of air-conditioning. Meanwhile, the desire for...
