Join us in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday 29 June 2017 for the next national conference - Affordability and liveability in our cities
This AHURI one-day conference will examine the affordability and liveability in our cities incorporating the latest AHURI research on housing and urban issues.
Almost two thirds of Australians live in our capital cities and that percentage is projected to grow considerably over the next 40 years. Affordability continues to be a significant issue at all stages of the housing continuum, from those living in social housing, through to private renters, and home owners. Outside the capitals, there are new and growing cities in all states and territories that are also facing affordability and liveability challenges associated with that growth. Our next AHURI conference, to be held in Melbourne - Australia’s fastest growing city - on Thu 29 June, will focus on the importance of affordable housing to developing and sustaining productive and liveable cities.
Key topics to be covered at the conference include:
What are the Federal Government’s cities policies and what is the role of affordable housing within these policies?
How is Victoria going to improve social and affordable housing in its cities given it is one of the top three priorities in the new 30 year state-wide Infrastructure strategy?
How does affordable housing link to productivity in our cites? Hear the latest AHURI evidence from the soon to be completed Inquiry into housing polices, labour force participation and economic growth.
What is a City Deal? An overview of the UK City Deals and in-depth analysis of the new Australian model currently being developed in a number of regional cities.
How is affordable housing being developed to support the productivity, liveability and sustainability of our cities?
Who should attend?
This is a national conversation, and we encourage policy-makers and practitioners from across Australia to join us, including:
Federal and state/territory government policy-makers from the housing, social policy, planning, infrastructure, finance and human service sectors
Private sector practitioners – property developers, urban planners, builders, financiers, designers and architects, real estate professionals
Social/community housing and homelessness practitioners and service providers
Charities, not-for-profit organisations, peak bodies and tenant groups
Community service providers across a range of relevant sectors - Indigenous, youth, disability, aged care and more.
