| All together now: research examining the separation of siblings in out-of-home care |
22 February 2011A new report launched by Anglicare Victoria today shows less than one in five foster children live with all of their brothers and sisters in the same home.
The report also shows that one quarter of foster children who are separated from siblings have no ongoing contact with them.
The Victorian figures are particularly stark in the face of international studies reporting entire sibling groups are kept intact in about 45 per cent of cases.
The report, All together now, is the result of a study carried out by the State's largest foster care agency, Anglicare Victoria, and is the first of its kind in Australia.
Anglicare Victoria is calling on the State Government to work together on investigating and implementing a range of measures to help house large siblings groups as well as improved practices to reunite sibling groups where possible or facilitate regular contact where reunification is not possible.
