03 May 2010A quiet revolution is occurring in Australia’s not-for-profit sector. Growing numbers of highly motivated people are ignoring the old charity model and creating a new model of social entrepreneurship, setting up new types of organisations that not only deliver social good but also are financially sustainable – even profitable. This bottom-up movement has started despite, and not because of, the old system of cheque-book philanthropy and government welfare.
This article explores new models for social entrepreneurship and includes an interview with Associate Professor Cheryl Kernot, Director of Social Enterprise at the Centre for Social Impact.
