ePortfolio Australia conference 2010: Widening participation - engaging the learner

02 December 2010New resources are available from the ePortfolios Australia Conference 2010, held in Melbourne on 3-4 November 2010.

More than 180 educators, thought leaders and managers from vocational education and training (VET), adult and community education (ACE) and higher education (HE) coming together for one of the first cross sectoral e-portfolio events in Australia.

Themed Widening participation – engaging the learner, the conference attracted attendees from all over  Australia  as well as Canada, Taiwan, the UK and the US.

The event represented a significant step toward answering the Australian Government’s call for collaboration between the sectors in creating learning pathways that engage all Australians in post-compulsory education, particularly those from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Over two days, more than 40 presentations explored current e-portfolio practices and the ways e-portfolios support learners to transition between education and training, employment and industry areas, including:

  • Dr Bret Eynon spoke about how LaGuardia Community College is using e-portfolios to engage learners from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Prof Victor Callan explained how to use e-portfolios to create holistic learning and assessment environments.
  • Christine Cowper spoke about the need to help learners keep their online personal information safe.
  • Marcia Devlin discussed the meaning of a ‘successful student’.

All of the presentations are summarised in the here >EAC2010 Conference Book of Abstracts and Papers.
PowerPoint slides from a number of presentations can be accessed from here.
