07 September 2008This report presents the findings of an evaluation of the impact of a liquor license restriction introduced in Fitzroy Crossing in October 2007 by the Director of Liquor and Licensing. The report covers the period October 2007 to February 2008 and provides both qualitative and quantitative data. Findings show a reduction in domestic violence, drunken behaviour and a decrease in the requirement of medical treatment. Negative consequences have been the financial losses to some private businesses. Overall the findings show a positive impact with clear benefits for the families and residents of Fitzroy Crossing.

On 18 November 2011, Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Senator the Hon Kate Lundy, announced the establishment of an independent panel of eminent community leaders to conduct an inquiry into Australian Government services to ensure they are responsive to the needs of Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
