Gender equality in the workforce: A feminist approach

20 September 2010Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick argues that a “critical mass” of women in senior positions is needed to achieve equality in the workforce and that quotas and targets must be considered.

Speaking at the National Conference on Women and Industrial Relations in Darwin, Ms Broderick said Australian women had much to celebrate, but discriminatory attitudes and stereotypes are still hidden in the cultures and mindsets of many organisations.

In May 2011 the Federal Government announced that the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) would commence operations from 1 July 2012 and that it would initially be responsible for determining the legal status of groups seeking charitable, public benevolent institution, and other not-for-profit (NFP) benefits on behalf of all Commonwealth agencies.
