Life chances and social exclusion: eleven years on

16 February 2005The Life Chances Study commenced in 1990 as a longitudinal study of 167 children born in Melbourne that year, to explore a wide range of factors which influence their life chances including family income, health, family relationships, social supports and ethnic background. A paper presented at the Australian Institute of Family Studies conference in 1993 identified ten of the most disadvantaged children at the first stage of the study; in this paper for the 2005 conference Janet Taylor revisits these children as 11 and 12 year olds.

The Australian Indigenous Health Bulletin started life in April 1982 as a hard-copy publication. It is now a peer-reviewed electronic journal published by the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet.
