26 January 2010Together with state and territory governments and the non-government sector, the federal government is developing National Standards for Out of Home Care. This paper has been developed to generate discussion and ideas to be considered in developing National Standards.

The development of these National Standards is an important action under the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009-2020. The guiding objective of the National Standards is that children living in Out of Home Care receive the same opportunities to develop and become healthy children and young people as those children and young people not in Out of Home Care. KPMG has been engaged to assist with the project.

Individuals and organisations are invited to provide feedback to guide the development of the National Standards by 26 March 2010. The National Standards for Out of Home Care will be finalised in 2010.
