| A review of the health leadership and management capacity in Cambodia |
12 August 2011A review and analysis of the health management and leadership capacity issues that affect the performance of district health managers in Cambodia. The first six chapters of each report provide descriptions of the health system of the country and the final four chapters attempt to assess the management and leadership capacity. Cambodia has made a tremendous effort to rebuild its health system following years of conflict that decimated the country's health infrastructure. The government introduced health sector reforms in the 1990s that emphasised strengthening and extending the delivery of primary health care through the district health system. Since the early 1990s health system reform has seen the health status of Cambodians improve markedly. However, the key challenge for Cambodia remains the implementation of the Health Strategic Plan 2008-2015, particularly the capacity of the Ministry of Health to monitor and evaluate progress and impact on health outcomes.
