10 March 2009This paper discusses the contrasting ideals of perpetually bettering oneself and society versus being satisfied with one's lot and finds that in all people and cultures 'settling' and 'striving' are deeply intertwined.
This paper was presented at the Centre for Public Policy's 'Values & Public Policy' conference in February 2009.
