Victorian men's health and wellbeing strategy

05 August 2010This report provides the first comprehensive picture of health issues and inequalities facing Victorian men. It proposes a framework and priority areas for the first Victorian Men’s health and wellbeing strategy.

Men in Victoria enjoy an excellent level of health compared with international benchmarks, however, research shows that in a range of areas, such as life expectancy, avoidable mortality and health risk behaviours, more attention is needed.

The Men's health and wellbeing strategy will improve men's health by assisting services to better understand and meet the needs of men; supporting men to create healthier lifestyles; and increasing men’s engagement with health services.

The strategy will complement work being undertaken through the Women's health and wellbeing strategy and further build our understanding of the important interactions between gender and health.

The first stage of work on the strategy has been the development of a background paper and associated summary document. The background paper brings together a broad range of information regarding the health and wellbeing of Victorian men. It proposes a framework and priority areas for the future strategy.
