| What's love got to do with it? Homogamy and dyadic approaches to understanding marital instability |
13 July 2009
This paper reports on a research study that has tracked 2,482 couples who were married or co-resident during the period 2001–2007.
The researchers investigated individual and couple characteristics associated with marital instability and found that characteristics of men and women can have quite different impacts on marital stability. It identifies factors associated with couples who remained together compared with those who divorced or separated.
The paper was jointly written for the 2009 HILDA Conference Dr Rebecca Kippen and Professor Bruce Chapman from The Australian National University, and Dr Peng Yu from the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
