Andrew Ness on urbanisation in China

03 July 2009One of the byproducts of China's extraordinary development in the last few decades has been an explosion in its urban populations. At the recent Metropolis summit in Sydney, Asia researcher Andrew Ness described how this changing landscape has come about, and how the Chinese are planning for an urbanised future.

Andrew Ness is the Executive Director of CBRE Research, Asia, where he oversees thorough research into the changing conditions In Asian property markets. He was educated at Columbia College, Columbia University. He has had articles on real estate markets and urban development in Hong Kong and Mainland China published in the Journal of the American Chamber of Commerce, Asia Wall Street Journal, Hong Kong Standard, China Business Review, South China Morning Journal and Britain in Hong Kong Magazine.

Michael Wesley, director of the foreign policy think tank, the Lowy Institute, has won the third John Button Prize for writing on public policy.

Dr Wesley won the $20,000 award for his book, There Goes the Neighbourhood: Australia and the Rise of Asia.
