Bess Nungarrayi Price on the NT Intervention

15 February 2010

In this impassioned address Bess Nungarrayi Price defends the controversial Northern Territory Emergency Response otherwise known as the 'Intervention.' Since the emergency measures were introduced in the Northern Territory in 2007, the intervention has been debated around the country some branding the measures as racist and extreme. Her speech is followed by an address given by her husband of over twenty years David Price about human rights, aboriginal culture and law.

Bess Nungarrayi Price was born in Yuendumu, Northern Territory and her first language is Walpiri. She is currently the Chair of the Northern Territory Indigenous Affairs Advisory Council and also works as a cross cultural awareness trainer with her husband David Price. She is a member of the commonwealth government 'Violence against Women Advisory Group.'
