In this impassioned address Bess Nungarrayi Price defends the controversial Northern Territory Emergency Response otherwise known as the 'Intervention.' Since the emergency measures were introduced in the Northern Territory in 2007, the intervention has been debated around the country some branding the measures as racist and extreme. In this Peter Howson Lecture for The Bennelong Society Bess Nungarrayi Price, a Walpiri woman from Yuendemu in the N.T. discusses the issues facing her community and explains why she thinks policies such as enforced income management are needed and welcome. Her speech is followed by an address given by her husband of over twenty years David Price about human rights, aboriginal culture and law.

Bess Nungarrayi Price was born in Yuendumu, Northern Territory and her first language is Walpiri. She is currently the Chair of the Northern Territory Indigenous Affairs Advisory Council and also works as a cross cultural awareness trainer with her husband David Price. She is a member of the commonwealth government 'Violence against Women Advisory Group.'

David Price, has been married to Bess Nungarrayi Price for over 20 years. They currently work together as cross cultural awareness trainers in the Central Australia region. David Price has professional background in education, training and public administration.
