The Rudd government says it has a grand design - to provide high speed broadband to every family, school, business and far flung corner of the country. Critics have said the plan is too ambitious, Telstra won't come to the party and there's no guarantee that people will want the broadband once it arrives. In this Sydney Institute talk Senator Conroy spruiks the National Broadband Network, arguing that it is crucial to the nation's future in an increasingly digital economy. And broadband isn't a luxury, but rather it will become an essential utility like electricity. Conroy also discusses our ABC, digital broadcasting and defends the massively controversial cyber safety policy, which aims to censor the net.
