EG Whitlam Fellow Research Project - Children and the Family Courts: Associate Professor Camilla Nelson

Call for participants

When parents separate, they sometimes go to court to sort out arrangements for their children. This system can be as difficult for children and young people as it is for adults. Our project seeks to investigate children’s experience of family law processes by speaking to 18+ adults who engaged with the family court when they were children.

We want to find out about your experience; including how it impacted you and whether the court listened to you or paid attention to your concerns.

We will be sharing what we learn with policymakers, researchers, and other people interested in improving outcomes for children and young people in family law and policymaking.

Participants in this research need to be:

  • Adults 18+;
  • Whose parents engaged with family court processes when they were children; and

Participation in this study involves:

  • A single, one-on-one voice-recorded chat with one of our research assistants via Zoom or Facetime at a time and place suitable to you and the research assistant.
  • A time commitment of 1 hour to 1.5 hours.
  • Afterwards, providing any clarifying comments or feedback if you wish (this part is not required but is provided if there is something further you wish to convey).

We will make sure that you cannot be identified in any of the research that we publish and that what you say cannot be traced back to you.
