5th Annual National Indigenous Social & Emotional Wellbeing Forum

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, health and wellbeing is viewed holistically and a sense of self includes the individual, their family, community and Country.

Australia’s mental health system is built on a western viewpoint, where western knowledge and methodologies are the default approach to psychological frameworks. Little recognition is given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander world views, wisdom, knowledge and methods, which span more than 60,000 years and represent the resilience of the oldest living culture.

Third Sector’s 5th Annual National Social and Emotional Wellbeing Forum is the largest gathering for the sector and will provide attendees with practical tools and strategies to tackle the high rate of Indigenous suicide and learn how to appropriately integrate culture into practice. The forum will also support attendees to develop strategies to improve and implement service design and access, including a dedicated stream focusing on solutions for children and young people.

Attend this forum to hear from over 70 community leaders and government representatives and learn how to:

  • Build strategies to reduce the rate of Indigenous suicide

  • Reduce stigma and discrimination associated with mental health

  • Embed culture into service design and delivery

  • Develop strategies to break the cycle of intergenerational trauma

  • Tackle the issues of substance abuse and addictions amongst the Indigenous community

  • Identify areas of improvement for optimal service access and reach
