The Prison to Work - Employment Service Offer is a new program announced in the 2017‑18 Federal Budget, as part of the Closing the Gap - Employment Services package, to support progress on achieving parity in employment outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

The program will be implemented progressively from January 2018, subject to negotiations with the states and territories. Specialist organisations, which have experience with Indigenous Australians and the criminal justice system, will be engaged to provide services that are designed to assist Indigenous prisoners access the support they need on their release, better prepare them to find employment and reintegrate into the community.

This consultation paper is now open for comment from organisations and individuals.
