Lambie targets political lobbying

19 Oct 2017
Description

Lobbying has become a powerful multi-million dollar industry in Australia.

It's also become a lucrative career path for many former politicians who can use their connections and inside knowledge to influence public policy for their paying clients.

In some cases — ministers have left government and walked straight into a lobbying role.

And while there's an official list of 'registered lobbyists' — there are plenty more people not on the list — like union officials and board members who are bending the ears of politicians.

Tasmanian Senator and key crossbencher Jacqui Lambie believes it's time for a shake-up.

She's campaigning for tougher rules around political lobbying.
