This paper brings to the surface a number of issues about the experience of being a board member of a RDA in NSW and WA. It seems that board members are drawn to this involvement as an act of goodwill and in the effort to make positive contributions to their communities. Involvement is often a reflection of their own personal and work based identities. For some board members the boardroom experience enables them to make connections which are often of a political nature. The majority of board members report that the experience of being on the board of a RDA has benefited their understanding of the region and the existence of funding programs, and how the 'system' works.
