Gaston Heimeriks


Dr. Gaston Heimeriks is Assistant Professor at the Department of Innovation Studies, Copernicus Institute, Utrecht University. An interdisciplinary academic by choice, Heimeriks’ efforts focus on improving our understanding of the world's complexity arising from the co-evolutionary development of knowledge, economy and institutions. 

Gaston is currently elected member of the Executive Committee of the Eu-SPRI Forum (European Forum for Studies of Policies for Research and Innovation). He is also member of the Program Committee for STI 2017 – Science, technology and innovation indicators conference and Editor of the Innovation Studies Utrecht (ISU) Working Paper Series.

He has many years of experience as a researcher and policy advisor on science, technology and innovation. A common theme in his work is the understanding and governance of scientific, technological and social change in the information society. His tools include the analysis of publication and patent data, the development of new methods and metrics that make visible hitherto neglected aspects of innovation 

He has published on topics such as evolution of knowledge, foresight, ICT methodologies, indicators, new modes of knowledge production and research policy.
