Job Description

This is a new role, with the Mental Health Foundation’s new Policy and Advocacy team and reports to the Community Engagement, Policy & Advocacy Manager. The Mental Health Foundation actively promotes the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We value the expertise of people with experience of mental illness - tangata whaiora - and we are an Equal Opportunity employer.

  • Are you a gifted policy analyst looking for an opportunity to make a real difference?
  • Can you combine a range of voices into clear, shared outcomes?
  • Do you love staying up-to-date with the latest evidence and practices?
  • Would you say you’re a phenomenal writer who delivers compelling, persuasive and accurate copy?

If you answered yes to all these questions then we need you here at the Mental Health Foundation (MHF). Working within our newly formed Advocacy and Policy team, you’ll work across our organisation and with other stakeholders to develop evidence-based and lived-experience informed policy, submissions and positions. Your work will guide the MHF in our mission to eradicate stigma and discrimination, prevent suicide and improve the positive mental health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.

You will have:

  • A minimum of four years’ experience as a policy analyst in either government or NGOs – if the bulk of your experience is working within an NGO, you’ll need to show significant interaction with government and government agencies as part of that mahi
  • Thought leadership experience in public health, social policy or related areas
  • A proven track record of strong relationship-building
  • Experience working on mental health issues in either mental health, education, social development or other relevant sectors
  • Experience working with government, including government ministries and/or agencies
  • An understanding of how to combine the influence of Maori, Pasifika, lived experience and community voices as well as other decision makers to achieve shared outcomes

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

The salary will be commensurate to the successful candidate's skills and experience for the role.

This role is based in our Maungawhau (Mount Eden) office in Auckland.

Applications will be accepted until 5pm on Friday the 26th of April.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
