Strategies to enhance the well-being of students from refugee backgrounds in universities in Perth, Western Australia

University students Refugees Refugee education Educational achievement Intercultural learning Western Australia

This study was conducted with students from refugee backgrounds who currently attend universities in Western Australia (WA). A needs analysis was undertaken to ascertain the specific learning needs and educational experiences of this unique student cohort and produced student-derived recommendations for all universities across Australia to provide better support to refugee students.

Based on the results of the Needs Analysis, a culturally sensitive and appropriate CD was developed as a useful orientation tool for both new refugee students in their first year of university and for university academics.
