Problem gambling is estimated to effect seven or even more people around the gambler, and family and friends comprise up to one third of clients to gambling help and support services.

This report explores their issues and needs in more detail, with a study of 62 family members were recruited from Gambling Help Online. It looks at client characteristics and the length of time they've been affected by their family member's gambling; the impact and their coping and levels of social support; previous use of support services; types of e-therapy accessed and its perceived benefit; and their reasons for seeking help and their expectations and hopes from the service. The findings suggest that family members experience a significant range of gambling-related harms and access help for a variety of reasons.
