Australian environmental water management report 2012

14 May 2012
Description

These two reports present a comprehensive roadmap of Australia's current environmental water management arrangements and chart progress since the publication of the Commission’s 2010 baseline report.

The Commission produced the Australian environmental water management report 2012 to:

  • improve the transparency of environmental water management practices in Australia
  • provide opportunities for jurisdictions to share knowledge
  • provide a more rigorous evidence base for the Commission to assess the management of environmental water.

The two documents build on the Australian environmental water management report 2010 to form a suite of resources.

  • The Australian environmental water management: 2012 review (PDF 3.6MB) (52) describes progress in environmental water management for each jurisdiction. It sets out an overview of environmental water management practices, the legislative framework and policies and responsible agencies for each of the framework criteria. A brief summary of the review and a roadmap for improvement are included.
  • The Australian environmental water management: framework criteria (PDF 3.7MB) (40) presents the framework which is made up of five elements and 27 criteria that characterise successful environmental water management practice. Each criterion is described and the key building blocks of environmental water management mechanisms, targeted environmental water regimes and targeted water dependent ecosystem outcomes are discussed.
