Vitamin D status has emerged as a significant public health issue in Australia and New Zealand. This article provides updated guidance to clinicians and health professionals on the role of vitamin D in health for adults.
An estimated 31% of adults in Australia have inadequate vitamin D status (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25-OHD] level
This field of research is fast-moving, and it is timely to re-examine past recommendations in light of the increasing number of medical conditions associated with low vitamin D status, and indications that higher levels of circulating serum 25-OHD may be required for optimal health.
