This plan is a local response that can drive impact at a national level through the ACT Agreement. Specifically, the plan supports a whole-of-government approach to meeting the objectives and achieving the outcomes under the National Agreement by outlining existing ACT Government commitments and actions developed in the context of Phase One of the ACT Agreement.

Key Findings/Targets:

• There will be formal partnership arrangements to support Closing the Gap in place between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and governments in place in each state and territory enshrining agreed joint decision-making roles and responsibilities and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have chosen their own representatives.
• The ACT Government will work closely with the Elected Body to develop, promote and distribute materials (when required), including face to face community forums and community days to build awareness and engagement with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and broader Canberra region.
• The Government aims to, by 2031, reduce the rate of incarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to achieve parity with the non-indigenous incarceration rate. Also to reduce the rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people (10-17) in detention by at least 30 per cent by 2031.
• In addition to this, the Government aims to Close the Gap in life expectancy within a generation, by 2031, so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders can live long healthy lives.
