Management of students with specialised health needs

Health Schools Australia Queensland

This document provides the procedural guidelines to ensure the consistent management of the health care of students with specialised health needs within educational settings. In order to ensure the best student outcomes, health risks are to be collaboratively monitored among school staff, parents and appropriately qualified health practitioners. The school principle is responsible for the primary management and record-keeping of student's specialised health care needs. The principle's resonsibilities include: the creation and staff education of individual and emergency health plans (IHP/EHP), ensuring regular reviews of student IHPs and EHPs, ensuring relevant staff have access to IHPs and EHPs and ensuring IHPs and EHPs are located with any emergency medications.
