Local schools: the heart of the community

26 May 2014

Schools are very special places in our community. They are where our children commence their formal education and are often visited by family and friends marking events such as school fetes, junior sport, assemblies and parent-teacher nights.

As one of the few pieces of public infrastructure that exist in virtually every community across NSW, during term schools are a hive of activity. But how frequently is this capacity used after the gate is closed in the afternoon and how many people access this infrastructure once their children have left school for the final time?

Labor believes school facilities should be more accessible to everyone – all year round – and even to those who no longer have children enrolled.

We believe that schools need to be at the heart of the community.
