Jobs Online measures changes in job vacancies advertised by businesses on the two main internet job boards – SEEK and Trade Me Jobs. The trend series is used as it reduces the month to month volatility.

Highlights

  • Online job vacancies grew in June. The online vacancies for skilled jobs grew by 2.5 per cent in June, while all vacancies increased by 1.7 per cent.
  • Job ads increased in most industry groups. The largest increases were in the construction and engineering, and hospitality and tourism industries (up 7.4 and 1.4 per cent respectively).
  • Vacancies grew in all occupation groups. The biggest month-on-month increases were for managers (up 2.4 per cent) and professional workers (up 2.3 per cent).
  • Skilled job vacancies increased in all regions. The biggest increase was in the Auckland region (up 2.9 per cent), followed by the South Island (excluding Canterbury) region (up 1.8 per cent).
