Advocating a better way to do democracy, the newDemocracy Foundation is an independent, non-partisan research organisation aiming to identify improvements to our democratic process.
Democracy is a significant reference point for our sense of well-being. When our faith in the political system is undermined by a belligerent adversarial system, we become exasperated and disillusioned - with our politicians and with ourselves. There is no doubt that most politicians are well intentioned but the way our system currently works means that their focus is too often on winning and retaining office.
Good quality public deliberation lies at the heart of genuine democracy.
People want to be participants in politics, not just polarised voters in adversarial contests.
The research evidence is compelling - trusted outcomes are achieved when a diverse and representative group of citizens, randomly selected, deliberate together.
